In the heart of Rheinhessen, Germany’s largest wine region, Weingut Carl Koch exemplifies the shift from bulk production to boutique excellence. Led by a young dynamic team and a quality-focused ethos, the estate produces elegant, organic wines that express the true character of their origin, especially their standout Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir).

The story begins in 1833 with the entrepreneurial vision of pharmacist Friedrich Koch. Under his son Carl Koch—former mayor of Oppenheim—the estate flourished, reaching its present scale by the late 19th century. Now in its seventh generation, the winery entered a new era in 2009 under Paul Berkes, continuing a legacy defined by continuity, care, and quiet ambition.

The 12 hectares of vineyards above Oppenheim and Dienheim have been organically farmed since 2010. Planted on a mosaic of loess, clay, and limestone marl, and shaped by unique Rhine-side microclimates, these historic sites yield fruit of exceptional clarity and depth.

Argentian winemaker Agustín Novoa brings experience in Mendoza and Northern Italy. His philosophy is one of restraint: low yields, hand harvesting, spontaneous fermentations, and minimal intervention. By allowing each wine the space to develop its own voice, the range achieves a signature balance of purity, finesse, and expressive terroir.
