Domaine Rene Rostaing, Cote - Rotie Ampodium 2020

Rene Rostaing’s Ampodium is the gateway into one of the Northern Rhone’s most revered domains but there’s nothing “entry level” about it. Drawn from over a dozen different parcels across the Cote-Rotie, including some plots of very old vines, this wine captures the essence of the appellation in a single, seamless blend.

In the cellar, Ampodium is made with minimal intervention  approach, a portion of whole clusters retained for perfume and spice, fermentation with native yeasts and around 12 months ageing in mostly used oak barrels.

This Syrah in all its lifted, seductive glory: dark blackberry and blueberry laced with violet, smoked meat and a crack of black pepper. There’s freshness woven through the richness, fine tannins that feel silky rather than stern, and a mineral edge from the schist soils that keeps the wine taut and alive. Welcome to Rostaing's world.
