The white Nossa Calcaria is made from old Bical vineyards and perfectly embodies this variety and region with its white limestone soils and moderate Atlantic climate.

It has a delicate but pronounced pear aroma typical of Bical, a very mineral nose with a hint of smokiness, and is a touch rounder and less austerely mineral than other vintages, with a slightly nutty character (hazelnut, almonds, pines) and notes of thyme and honey on the saline finish, which is both voluptuous and precise with notes of preserved and ripe fruit.

Critics love this wine, and understandably so - it is a stunning expression of place and variety that will absolutely transport you to those cool, Atlantic limestone vineyards with its idiosyncratic varieties.

For the wine geeks: manual harvest, sorting on the vine then in the vat and finally pressing (pneumatic press) to obtain a slow extraction. Barreling after a slight settling. The grapes are put in 500-600 litre oak barrels and one vat of 2000 litres in which the alcoholic and
malolactic fermentations with native yeasts take place. Ageing on fine lees for 10 months, without stirring. One month before bottling, the wine from different barrels is placed in a stainless steel tank for blending. Bottling is done according to the lunar calendar.

Filipa Pato and William Wouters are a husband and wife team who are living the dream and making wine in Filipa's hometown of Óis do Bairro, just 15 km from the Atlantic Ocean, in the DOC of Barraida.

The region has for centuries produced bold red wines from indigenous red variety Baga and is considered the best terroir for the little known Bical, which makes high quality white and sparkling wines.

Filipa and William saved several of their plots from being uprooted, focusing on their beloved indigenous varieties Baga and Bical, as well as Arinto, Cercial and Maria Gomes. They practice biodynamic viticulture and minimal intervention in the winery to create true "terroir" wines under the philosophy "authentic wines without makeup".

Filipa is a trained chemical engineer with viticultural and winemaking experience in Bordeaux, Mendoza and Margaret River and daughter of Barraida's most famous producer, Luis Pato, while William is a chef, restaurateur and sommelier from Antwerp.
