In the words of Julian Ludes, the quintessential ‘breakfast wine’. As with all of Ludes’s  superb wines, this is structured and intensely mineral driven. The fruit is taken from the 
alluvial soil of Thörnicher Schiesslay and the wine itself is brilliantly off-dry, minerally, 
melon-y, white flowery, with a round, tangy mouthfeel and a finish that lasts just long 
enough to make things interesting.

Weingut Hermann Ludes in Thörnich in the Mosel is one to watch. They are not widely known outside the local market, but have attracted attention with their pure, uber-traditional, electrifyingly acidic and extremely ageworthy wines.

Julian Ludes has been following in his uncle's footsteps since 2016 and is clearly set on continuing the traditional winemaking style whilst pushing ever further for the highest quality levels. His uncle had already begun the work of uncompromising focus on only the best plots, focusing on old, often ungrafted, vines on the poorest soils.

The resulting wines are uncompromising, full of individual character that reflect their hands off approach in the cellar, that age magnificently - many are at their best with at least 15-20 years of ageing.
