This Etna Rosso is a representative of this wild, volcanic region as it gets. Produced in an arch traditional way, with vinification in a lava rock Palmento (gravity led stone structures), this ancient Etnean practice actually prevents the labelling of the wine as an Etna DOC. It is 90% Nerello Mascalese and 10% Nerello Capuccio, and is a delightful juicy tonic, floral and cherry fruited, coupled with Etna’s distinctive spice and some gentle tobacco notes. A genuine wine of place: nothing changed, nothing added, foot trodden and bottled under the lunar cycle.

I Vigneri is a collective of men and women originally from Mt. Etna, brought together by Salvo Foti, a native Sicilian who started his oenological career as a consultant for renowned Sicilian producers in Agrigento, Ragusa and Trapani.

For the last 30 years, he has been working closely with the growers of I Vigneri, a tightknit group of indigenous Etnean winegrowers, to make “Human Wines”: winemaking with respect for Humankind and the Environment. Their work in the vineyard and winery is traditional, but supported by small innovations and extensive research to achieve the best results. Their methods and tools are non-invasive, with the utmost respect for tradition and their ancient vineyards.

The basic spirit is the search for harmony, an organic approach, without rushing and forcing nature, in sync with their surroundings: the Environment and Mount Etna.

The vineyards are located in three different areas of the volcano and at different altitudes, in order to cultivate each indigenous grape in the specific place where it was selected or introduced in ancient times. The winery is an ancient Etnean Palmento in lava stone where wine is produced as it has always been done on Etna.
