Wines like this are the reason German Chardonnay is all the craze right now. Comparisons hardly do it justice but if you were to mistake it for serious Burgundy, you wouldn’t be far off. Think St. Aubin, and you’ve got a good idea of the direction this wine is going.

A warm 22 vintage and around 30% new oak bring an irresistible creamy core, balanced by a serious flinty- gunpowder edge and some hints of toast. Aromas of candied lemon peel and clementine round things out beautifully. There are some But don’t mistake this for an over-the-top oak monster, a energetic acidity keeps everything in check, delivering finesse and balance.

In the quiet village of Appenheim in northern Rheinhessen, brothers Tobias and Björn Knewitz have transformed their family estate into a powerhouse and one of Germany’s most exciting young wineries. Tobias trained at Geisenheim, running the winery cellar with absolute precision, while Björn brings fresh perspective to the vineyards. Together with Tobias’s partner Corina they form a close-knit team driving the estate forward with ambition and clear vision.

What makes Knewitz stand out is their land. Their vineyards sit on some of the most limestone rich soils in Germany- ancient reef landscapes that give the wines their trademark clarity, freshness, and tension. The brothers aren’t chasing style or fashion; their focus is on authenticity and honesty, letting the character of each site shine through.
