Englishman Joseph Gilbert at Pewsey Vale first planted Riesling in the high altitude Eden Valley, to the south of Barossa, in 1847. By the 1960s, Riesling had become Australia's most planted white variety, before fashion shifted to Chardonnay in the 1980s. Thankfully, the Rieslings of Eden Valley continued to be appreciated for their exceptionally fresh and delicate quality and this Old Vine Riesling from two vineyards is quintessential: green apple and lime zest with bracing acid profile and leesy texture make it a great food-pairing Riesling.

The Lone Palm Vineyards winery in the hamlet of Marananga was established in 1992 and has sublime vistas over its old vineyards. Ancient gums on rolling Barossa hills overlook Greenock and Seppeltsfield. Behind the small, hands-on winery is a classic, old-time Barossa homestead built in the late 1800s over which a single palm tree stands. All fruit is hand-harvested and naturally-fermented, aged largely in older French barriques and some larger vessels, also some American oak which suits the generosity of the reds here too. Inspired by old-school winemaking techniques Tom White champions natural winemaking from his old vines, respecting the traditional flavours of the Barossa.
