If you think you know Ribera del Duero, think again. Evoking powerhouse, oaked reds, Ribera can often be seen as a bit heavy, but this beauty is a gamechanger. Made in the roble style - somewhere between Joven and Crianza (so requiring significantly less time in oak than the Reserva or Gran Reserva categories), this has only seen open vat, followed by large, old oak barrels, meaning the wood influence is mostly textural, letting the fruit do all the speaking. And from vineyards grown at high altitude, on clay and limestone soils, with a minimum of 55 years of age, this is fabulous Tinto de Pais (Tempranillo) fruit giving lovely fresh cherries, plum and peppery notes. Foot treading and wild yeasts add to the old-school charm. Great value to boot.

Germán Blanco is a young winemaker who is championing a fresher style of Tinto del Pais-- the local name for Tempranillo. He calls his project a 'Micro-winery ‘ and it is a true family business, based around the village of La Aguilera in the Burgos province.

He works with very old vineyards, many of which are planted at over 900 metres above sea level. German makes his elegant, fruit-forward wines using foot-treading, wild yeast fermentation and minimal handling. All his wines share a delicious rusticity, purity of fruit, and incredible freshness.

Quinta Milú is named for Germán’s son, Lucas, whom they lovingly refer to as “Mi Lu” or Milú.
