Donovan Rall's wines are among the most sought after from South Africa, being exceptionally highly rated by critics and with a very limited production usually selling out on release. His AVA Chenin Blanc is a knock-out wine. One critic has described it as "Spine tingling. Like holding the moon in your mouth". Rall himself describes this wine as having a unique profile thanks to the very low yielding vineyard on schist and granite soils where the fruit is sourced, and thinks of it as the most ageworthy of his white wines, being too special to blend into his supremely admired flagship Rall White. It is indeed really rather special and not to be missed.

Donovan Rall is a leading figure in South Africa’s New Wave winemaking movement and the founder of Rall Wines. Trained in viticulture and oenology at the University of Stellenbosch, he gained international experience working in Europe and Australia before returning to South Africa, where he worked with Eben Sadie and began producing wines under his own name with the 2008 vintage.

Based primarily in the Swartland, he sources small parcels of high‑quality fruit from carefully chosen vineyards across the Western Cape and is known for his exceptional palate and blending skills. His winemaking philosophy emphasises natural fermentations, minimal intervention, sustainability, and a strong expression of place, using vessels such as old oak, concrete, and amphora.

Initially an insider’s secret, his wines are now highly sought after and sell out on release, earning widespread critical acclaim, major awards, and recognition among South Africa’s top winemakers for their elegance, balance, and sense of terroir.
