Sankt Laurent or St- Laurent, feels like Austria's very own version of a Pinot Noir but with all the trademarks of a true Alpine Wine. It is having a bit of a Renaissance across Austria but it is in wines like these from Hannes Schuster that they express their true potential.
This Sankt Laurent is from the Schuster's younger vines in their top vineyard sites in Sankt Margarethen and Donnerskirchen makes for a great introduction to this grape. Like in all their wines, the Schuster's emphasize freshness and finesse above all else. This may be considered the gateway wine but wow! Sour cherries, redcurrant, wild raspberries and a somewhat earthy component all beautifully bound together by a playful acidity.
