Savagnin is famously the signature grape of the Jura and its idiosyncratic oxidative, sherried, walnutty, quincy wines so popular on the natural and gastronomic wine scene. Transport this to Pfalz and to the winemaking talents of the Seckinger brothers, and you are in for a wonderful discovery. Although Savagnin was once upon a time grown in the region, it has all but fallen into extinction. The Seckingers planted their vineyard from Jura clones and are also influenced by Jura in the winemaking - not filling the barrels fully during fermentation to allow oxidation, with the wine protected by a layer of yeast called flor, like in sherry production. The result is a compelling bouquet of bruised apple, pear, orange peel, ginger, chamomile, almond and walnut, with great texture, salinity and silky acidity.

One of the Pfalz region's great recent success stories, the Seckinger brothers, Philipp, Jonas and Lukas, took over the family vineyards in 2012 and founded their own winery, with a very clear mission to work as naturally as possible and produce wines with a true sense of place.

With grapes from some of the best Pfalz vineyards around Deidesheim already at their disposal, they carefully expanded their vineyard holdings around Deidesheim, Königsbach, and Ruppertsberg. They converted first to organic, then to biodynamic farming in 2018.

The results have spoken for themselves, with a distinctive style of bone-dry elegance, minerality and purity shining through all their bottlings, which include Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc.
