A real wine of the soil, this Frappato is made from 45 year old vines planted in terra rossa – ferrous sandy clay – soils that the variety thrives in. The gentle winemaking has resulted in a wine that evokes a tremendous sense of place - sour cherry fruit, Mediterranean herbs and blood orange transport you straight to the wild Sicilian landscape. 'Zappa e puta' translates as 'hoeing and pruning' in local dialect – a saying that symbolises graft and the satisfaction of working hard to craft quality (though somewhat ruder translations have also been offered).

VINB is a young and exciting project launched in 2022 by Biagio Di Stefano and Vittorio D'Angelo. The pair met while working for the Occhipintis – a name that needs no introduction on the Sicilian and Italian scene – Biagio assisted Giusto Occhipinti at COS while Vittorio was Arianna's right-hand man at her own azienda.

Biagio and Vittorio hail from Chiaramonte Gulfi, a small town in the Hyblaean Mountains (Monti Iblei), about 18km north of Ragusa in the Vittoria area – a region famous especially for its olive oils from centuries-old trees.

Agricola VINB's holdings comprise 2.7ha in the prestigious contrada Bastonaca, on the Vittoria plateau at 230m above sea level, in the historical heart of the Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG. Planted from ancient massal selections, the vines sit on typical soils of red sand (30–60cm) over soft limestone from the Pliocene epoch – well-suited for the making of elegant and aromatic frappato wines.

Biagio and Vittorio deliberately eschewed modern oenology and its trends to return to early principles, convinced that the true essence of Vittoria lies in freshness as well as ripeness. The result is a vibrant take on Vittoria with wines defined by balance, transparency, and above all character.
